Phone as Key
Once it’s set up, you stop thinking about keys. Phone in pocket, car unlocks when you’re close, locks when you walk away. It’s the future, or at least 2018.
Setup
Controls → Locks → Keys → add your phone, follow the prompts. Stash the key card in your wallet for the day your phone dies or you drop it in a toilet. It happens.
How it works
Bluetooth on, Tesla app installed (can run in the background—you don’t open it). Approach = unlock. Walk away = lock. Get in and drive. No tapping, no “where did I put the fob.”
When it doesn’t
Give the app Bluetooth permission and don’t let your OS kill it in the background. If the car’s being stubborn, wave the key card on the center console like a normal person. You can turn off “Passive Entry” if you’d rather unlock only when you tap the app—your call.
